Allahabad enjoys a special mention in the history of India. It was the capital of the Guptas. The British Rule on India   was imposed from here. Therefore the city is having numerous buildings and monuments which gives us the clue of all those events.
Ashoka Pillar

It is inside the fort. It is of polished sandstone 10.6 metres high believed to be made in 232 B.C. There are certain edicts of Ashoka, Samudragupta's records of his victories, 2 mirror pillar edicts and a Persian inscription of Jahangir to commemorate his accession to the throne. (Permission needed to visit).
