It was here, on the banks of the river Yamuna, that Lord Canning read out Queen Victoria's famous Proclamation, the transfer of authority from the East India Company to the British Crown was effected. In 1910, 52 years later, Lord Mayo laid the foundation stone for the Park that was to be built on the site. A beautiful park, one of its attractions is the four lions mounted on a white stone memorial.
