| The
University of Allahabad, founded in 1887,
has an old and distinguished tradition of learning
and scholarship. A walk around the main edifices
of the University complex like the Senate
Hall, the Vijayanagram Hall and the building
housing the J. K. Institute of applied Physics
evokes the air of grandeur and academic. Especially
striking is the Vijayanagaram Hall complex with its
intermingling of late Mughal, Saracenic
and Gothic architecture.
