ALLAHABAD |

Allahabad is one of the greatest
pilgrimage destinations of India, as well an administrative
and industrial center.
-
It
is situated at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna
and the mythological sub-terranean river Sarawati.
The confluence is sacred to Hindus & popularly
known as Sangam. During the months of January
& February the annual Magh Mela is held. Once
every twelve years, the massive Maha Kumbh Mela
is organised which is the largest religious congruence
on this planet Earth. The last one was in 2001.

In
1583, the Mughul Emperor Akbar built a massive
fort here, on the rivers bank. It is still used
by Indian Army today.

Mahatma
Gandhi's non-violent movement took place here
in 1920.

The
formal transfer of power from East India Company
to British crown took place in Allahabad in 1885.

Allahabad
has “Ananad Bhawan” the ancesterol
home of India’s first Prime Minister Pt.
Jawahar Lal Nehru and that was donated to the
government by her daughter our Late Prime Minister,
Mrs. Indira Gandhi, which depicts various important
events of freedom.
